Bold Announces $55M Series B Investment to Drive Continued Transformation of Colombia’s Digital Payments Ecosystem

Growth investment from Tiger Global Management and General Atlantic to support Company in expansion of product suite, geographic reach, and team

Bold, a financial technology company enabling financial access to electronic payments in Colombia, today announced a $55M Series B investment led by Tiger Global Management, a leading investment firm, with participation from General Atlantic, a leading global growth equity firm, and Endeavor Catalyst. Existing investors Piton Capital, GFC, InQLab, Kingsway Capital, Solid Ventures, Grupo Auteco, Amador and Condor Inverlink also participated in the round. Bold plans to leverage the new funds to expand its product and service offering into adjacent financial services for merchants, including working capital financing, lending, deposit accounts, debit and credit cards, as well as to accelerate geographic expansion and hire new talent.

Bold is an emerging independent merchant-acquirer with the mission of promoting financial inclusion by expanding the digital payments ecosystem in Colombia. Bold serves small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), allowing merchants to enroll in just five minutes – versus an average of 15 days with legacy banks – and providing low-cost payment terminals that enable businesses to accept link payments and other local payment methods, with no monthly point-of-sale fees. Merchants supported by Bold have seen sales grow approximately 25% on average simply by enabling digital payments.

Bold was founded in 2019 by José Vélez, Ana María Sandoval, Enríque Ramírez, Jorge Ulloa, and Sergio Vergara. Vélez is the former co-founder and CEO of PayU Latam, a leading online and cross-border payments technology platform. Since its inception, Bold has scaled to more than 380 employees and generated strong traction with merchants, reaching over 100,000 acquired merchants in this time frame. In Colombia, where cash still represents more than 80% of transaction volume, versus 35% in Brazil and 30% in the United States, Bold is laying critical groundwork for small businesses to begin expanding their customer bases and entering the next generation of payments.

José Vélez, Co-Founder and CEO of Bold, said, “Colombia is at an inflection point in the transition from a cash to a digital payments economy. At Bold, we are passionate about unlocking the growth potential of small business by providing easy to use and affordable financial services, and we see a unique opportunity to accelerate the change to digital payments for the benefit of merchants and consumers alike. We look forward to the support of both Tiger and General Atlantic as we focus on growth and deepening the value that we provide to our customers.”

“Despite the fact that small and medium sized businesses are the engine of the Colombian economy, they haven’t had the opportunity to access electronic payments because they are constantly overlooked by established banks. Bold offers small merchants a much-needed opportunity to access digital payments,” commented John Curtius, Partner at Tiger Global Management. “What stands out at Bold is their mission to help small and medium businesses succeed by creating great products which are affordable and easy to use. We are happy to support Bold´s plans to scale and expand its financial services.”

“Bold is a dynamic player with the opportunity to lead the shift towards innovative payments solutions that leverage consumers’ increased access to credit and meet the heightened demand for electronic payments for millions in Colombia, a region that is ripe for innovation,” continued Luiz Ribeiro, Managing Director at General Atlantic. “The platform plays a unique role as the gateway for small merchants in Colombia to begin accepting digital payments, and we are proud to back José and the seasoned management team at Bold as they scale.”

o9 Solutions Raises $295 Million From Strategic Investors to Continue its Growth Across Industry Verticals & Markets

KKR

General Atlantic, Its BeyondNetZero Venture, and Generation Investment Management Join KKR as Investors in o9, Valuing the Company at $2.7 Billion

DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–o9 Solutions, a leading enterprise AI software platform provider for transforming planning and decision-making speed and quality in companies across industry verticals, today announced that it has received equity investments totaling $295 million from General Atlantic, including BeyondNetZero, its climate investing venture, Generation Investment Management, a pure-play sustainability investment manager, and existing investor KKR. This significant investment will help o9 build on its momentum and accelerate growth for its AI-powered Integrated Business Planning platform it calls the “Digital Brain” across industry verticals and markets. It will also help o9 drive continued innovation in R&D, industry knowledge models and partner ecosystem development that will help companies implement o9’s game-changing platform faster and realize greater value.

Today, leading companies across varied industry verticals that include retail, consumer and industrial products manufacturing, high-tech and semiconductor, life sciences, automotive, telecom, and oil and gas leverage o9’s Digital Brain platform for transforming their supply chain, commercial and integrated business planning capabilities. These companies are using o9’s Digital Brain platform to build a live, digital model of enterprise data and knowledge that helps them detect demand and supply risks and opportunities, forecast demand more accurately, and evaluate what-if scenarios all in real time. By matching demand and supply intelligently and driving greater alignment and collaboration between customers, internal stakeholders and suppliers across the integrated supply chain, clients can realize significant value from their commercial plans and decisions while making measurable positive impact to the environment.

“We have an unprecedented opportunity in front of us,” said Chakri Gottemukkala, Co-founder and CEO of o9. “Demand and supply volatility and complexity has been growing and the pandemic has only accelerated the challenges companies face in meeting customer service and financial goals. At the same time, there is significant pressure on boards and executives from customers and employees to also drive meaningful improvements in sustainability goals. And we believe that o9 is poised perfectly to help companies deal with these mega trends with a differentiated, proven platform.

“Executives are increasingly seeing that transforming planning and decision-making capabilities need to be more agile, and integration is the most mission critical, high-value initiative going forward. And because global supply chains are the majority source of environmental impact, we believe transforming planning is key not just for improving P&Ls, but also the health of the planet. The new investments and strategic partnerships with General Atlantic, BeyondNetZero and Generation Investment Management, along with our established strategic partnership with KKR, will help us accelerate this sacred mission of making the o9 Digital Brain the most value-creating enterprise platform.”

General Atlantic, its BeyondNetZero venture and Generation Investment Management join KKR as investors in o9, valuing the company at $2.7 billion. This marks an increase from the $1 billion valuation in April 2020 at the time of the company’s first-ever external investment led by KKR, which is also participating in this funding round. This capital raise follows a record year during which the company reported a greater than threefold increase year-over-year in annual recurring revenue (ARR) from new customers.

“Not only is an agile, intelligent and resilient supply chain one of the most important growth accelerators, it also inherently leads to a reduced carbon footprint – especially for organizations that operate on a global scale,” said Sanjiv Sidhu, Chairman and Co-Founder, o9. “A sustainable supply chain requires companies to digitally transform their planning and decision-making capabilities. o9’s Digital Brain platform makes us the partner of choice for companies across the world and we are pleased and honored that General Atlantic, BeyondNetZero and Generation Investment Management recognize this at such a pivotal phase of our growth trajectory.”

“We believe that o9 is uniquely positioned at the intersection of technology, supply chain, and sustainability,” said Tanzeen Syed, Managing Director, General Atlantic. “The business fits squarely within our theses at General Atlantic and BeyondNetZero to support companies that are leveraging innovation to tackle some of the most pressing issues in the world. o9 helps large organizations transform their costly, complex and resource-intensive supply chains into profitable and environmentally sound models – playing a critical role in enabling them to work toward net zero targets.”

Joy Tuffield, Partner in the Growth Equity strategy at Generation Investment Management, said, “Generation’s brand is predicated on the belief that long-term commercial opportunity is synonymous with sustainable outcomes. We believe the best businesses stand for something significant. Sustainability and supply chain issues have never been more important. o9 is one of the rare companies that we believe can help global enterprises leverage the power of digital technologies to deliver on both imperatives. We are excited by the commitment of o9 to be an enduring company with a positive influence on the world, in both what the company does and how it operates.”

BPEA Sells Singapore-Based Customized Technology Solutions Provider Interplex to Blackstone for $1.6 billion

BPEA

Sale concludes multi-year transformation following BPEA-led privatization from the Singapore Exchange in 2016

20 January 2022, Singapore – Baring Private Equity Asia today announced that its affiliated private equity funds (“BPEA”) have sold Interplex, a global vertically integrated customized technology solutions provider, to private equity funds managed by Blackstone for a total enterprise value of $1.6 billion.

Interplex provides a wide variety of customized connector, high-precision, and mechanical solutions focused on driving innovation in automotive electrification, autonomous driving, medical & life sciences, and digitalization. The company serves a global customer base, which includes leading-edge technology and electric vehicle (EV) companies, with approximately 13,000 employees across more than 30 locations and 10 R&D sites globally.

BPEA privatized Interplex from the Singapore Exchange (SGX) in 2016. Since its investment, BPEA has supported management in increasing R&D development globally and strengthening the company’s focus on the design and manufacture of customized connectors and other high precision offerings. During this time, significant progress has been achieved in increasing investment, streamlining operations, and repositioning the company to support customers’ growing requirements for integrated solutions. Today, Interplex generates the majority of its revenues from its new higher-margin business lines, led by fast-growing technology and EV clients. During BPEA’s ownership, Interplex also implemented ESG best practices focusing on the company’s environmental footprint and governance systems to become an ESG leader in its sector.

Hong Yong Leong, Managing Director at BPEA, commented: “We are proud to have supported Interplex’s transformation over the past five years. We saw a lot of potential in Interplex’s capabilities and embarked on a long-term strategic plan alongside management to re-orientate the business towards secular megatrends such as technology, data, and electric mobility. The company’s current top-tier client base, consisting of leading global EV manufacturers, data communication providers, and medical device companies, is a testament to the hard work of the management team in executing that vision. They were also instrumental in creating a highly sustainable business with strong customer-centricity, innovation capabilities, product quality, and ESG ethos. We would like to thank them for their immense contributions, and we believe the business is in good hands for the future.”

Goldman Sachs acted as exclusive financial advisor to Baring Private Equity Asia on the transaction.

JAN 20, 2022

Kian Capital-backed The Purple Guys, a leading provider of managed IT services to small and mid-sized organizations, completed the acquisition of Technology Pointe (“Tech Pointe”), an Austin, Texas-based IT managed services provider. The investment achieves The Purple Guys’ goals of expanding into Texas, adding scale to its solutions portfolio and bringing together teams of high-performing and talented employees in support of a growing and complementary client base.

Tech Pointe has over 20 years of experience providing best-in-class managed IT services, strategy and support to the small to medium-sized business (“SMB”) community across a range of industries throughout the state of Texas. The company’s demonstrated client-first focus and market-leading presence in Austin and Dallas will significantly enhance The Purple Guys’ platform.

Kevin Cook, CEO of The Purple Guys, stated, “As we continue to deliver on our promise to create a new industry standard for managed IT services to the SMB community, we are excited to once again expand our presence with the acquisition of another forward-looking leader in the space. Chuck Cobern, Glenn Iltis and the talented team at Tech Pointe created a market-leading outsourced IT experience for their clients, and we look forward to building on their success.”

“Joining The Purple Guys is an exciting time for our team,” said Chuck Cobern, Founder of Tech Pointe. “It was imperative for Glenn and me to find a partner that values our employees and clients as much as we do. By combining our capabilities with those of The Purple Guys, we have an unprecedented opportunity to add tremendous value to the services we provide to support our clients’ IT needs. Furthermore, our employees are set to benefit significantly from the new opportunities that lie ahead.”

Tech Pointe marks the fourth acquisition for The Purple Guys since the formation of its partnership with Kian Capital and ParkSouth Ventures in January 2020 and the first since announcing its rebranding. Cook added, “We remain committed to our strategic growth plan to add scale and innovation for our clients while preserving our people-first culture. Tech Pointe will play an important role in our future success, and in 2022 we plan to continue executing our acquisition strategy across the Central and Southern U.S.”

Matt Levenson, Partner at Kian Capital, commented, “Increasing complexity and security concerns have made IT management a core strategic priority for SMB decision-makers. The Purple Guys has successfully executed several important growth initiatives over the past year—both organically and through strategic acquisitions—to better address the complex needs of their customers. We have been looking for a strategic partner with roots in Texas and Tech Pointe presents a significant opportunity to expand on the company’s success and drive continued growth throughout the state. We are thrilled with the prospects of this new partnership and those to come.”

Pixis raises $100M in SoftBank Vision Fund 2-led Series C funding to grow its codeless AI infrastructure

Pixis (formerly known as Pyxis One), a leading provider of contextual codeless AI infrastructure for complete marketing optimization, today announced it has secured US $100M in Series C funding. Pixis will leverage the fresh funds to help the company rapidly scale its AI platforms and plugins, as well as accelerate expansions across North America, Europe, and APAC.

The Series C round was led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2, with participation from new investor General Atlantic, a leading global growth equity firm. Existing investors Celesta, Premji Invest, Chiratae Ventures, and Crimsonox Ventures also participated in the round. With the close of its US $17M Series B round just four months prior, Pixis has raised a total of US $124M to date since its founding in 2018.

Pixis’ AI infrastructure, which leverages self-evolving neural networks, is providing immense value to customers through its codeless AI plugin, enabling AI-powered decision-making for every aspect of marketing. Pixis recently launched its codeless AI plugin after closing, with the belief that a powerful codeless AI infrastructure will help safeguard marketers against inevitable developments that will change the current marketing ecosystem. Looking ahead, Pixis aims to add over 200 customizable self-evolving AI models to the infrastructure it offers and has already introduced close to four dozen AI models since its last funding.

Pixis currently has over 100 customers using its AI products across the world. Customers using the Pixis AI infrastructure have witnessed a 20% decrease in acquisition costs on average, in addition to at least 300 hours of manual work saved per month.

“The web going cookieless, in conjunction with decreasing access to the depth of data that was previously available, is a worrisome situation for marketers. In this environment, it is self-evolving neural networks that are proving to be invaluable assets in countering the disruptions to the marketing landscape,” explained Shubham A. Mishra, co-founder and Global CEO at Pixis. “We are excited to partner with SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and General Atlantic to make codeless AI infrastructure accessible to every market in the world.”

Shantanu Rastogi, Managing Director at General Atlantic, continued, “Pixis is disrupting the marketing space with a self-learning codeless AI infrastructure that serves a mission-critical function in the marketing tech stack. The AI plugins and platforms solve key customer problems and are improving business outcomes. The Pixis platform demonstrates the power of global entrepreneurship, and we are proud to support the team’s ambitions of continued expansion.”

SoftBank Vision Fund 2’s investment in Pixis confirms that in a cookieless world, Artificial Intelligence could be the big differentiating factor for brands. “Marketing is one of the largest spend categories for companies but many of its decisions are still driven by intuition rather than data,” said Priya Saiprasad, Partner at SoftBank Investment Advisers. “Pixis has developed an AI-enabled, end-to-end digital marketing solution that equips teams with cutting-edge data science to automate and improve core processes, from budget allocation to real-time campaign optimization and reporting. We are excited to partner with Shubham and the team to support their mission to make marketing data-backed, intelligent, agile, and effortlessly scalable in the new cookie-less world.”

Amsterdam-based D2X raises €5 million to create pan-European digital derivatives exchange

Fortino Capital

Founded in 2020, D2X has just closed a €5 million seed funding round to build a pioneering institutional-grade and regulated options and futures exchange for digital assets in Europe.

The funding was led by Tioga Capital Partners, with participation from Flow Traders, Fortino Capital, Kima Ventures and Picus Capital.

While the demand for digital assets has been accelerating in Europe, the infrastructure to keep up has been lagging behind. This new asset class in Europe is still faced with many challenges – from a lack of liquidity, operational risks to the absence of institutional-grade market infrastructure.

Amsterdam-based D2X was built with these issues in mind, with the idea to provide financial institutions with a capital-efficient and clean exposure to the asset class while mitigating operational and regulatory risks.

By listing cash-settled derivatives denominated in Euro, D2X addresses the operational risks and the challenging regulatory framework limiting the institutional adoption of the asset class. D2X is designed as a plug-and-play solution for institutional investors with a robust risk management model and a reliable trading interface.

The fintech startup was launched by Theodore Rozencwajg, Don van der Krogt and Laetitia Grimaud with a core objective to bridge the gap between digital assets and traditional finance for institutions.

Laetitia Grimaud, co-founder, said: “Crypto regulation is currently very fragmented in Europe. At D2X, we adopt a regulatory-first approach and align with the existing EU regulatory framework. In the near future, we will leverage upcoming Crypto regulation to further extend our offering.”

In the mission to become the leading market infrastructure for digital assets in Europe, this new funding will be used to reinforce the core team with new talent and accelerate the development of the exchange. Looking to the future, the young company wants to expand further internationally and to new asset classes as part of the wider vision to bridge the gap between tech and finance.

Record-breaking fundraising of €486 million for Qonto, to further accelerate European growth and become the finance solution for 1 million SMEs and freelancers by 2025

KKR

January 11, 2022

Paris, January 11 2022 – Qonto, the leading European business finance solution, announced today it has raised €486 million in Series D funding, bringing Qonto’s valuation to €4.4 billion. With this fundraising – one of the largest ever in French history – Qonto sets a new record valuation for a French scale-up. This latest round is jointly led by new investors Tiger Global and TCV, in addition to eight other new contributors: Alkeon, Eurazeo, KKR, Insight Partners, Exor Seeds, Guillaume Pousaz, Gaingels and Ashley Flucas. They will join current investors Valar, Alven, DST Global and Tencent who are all renewing their support by participating in this new funding round.
Since its launch in France in 2017, Qonto has been committed to building the first all-in-one finance solution for SMEs and freelancers. Qonto simplifies everything from everyday banking and financing to bookkeeping and spend management, allowing its customers to focus on what truly matters. The company currently has more than 220,000 clients across four markets (France, Germany, Italy, and Spain). With this new funding round, Qonto’s ambition is to become the finance solution of choice for 1 million European SMEs and freelancers by 2025.
To support its high-level goals, Qonto will:
Continue expanding its product offer through in-house development, new strategic partnerships and potential acquisitions to ensure it offers its clients the best product available on the market;
Further grow its market penetration across Germany, Italy and Spain and new markets. In 2021, the company opened local offices in Barcelona, Berlin and Milan to fully tailor its offer to each market and lay down roots in those local ecosystems to foster closer partnership. Qonto is expanding particularly rapidly across these markets: the company has quadrupled its revenue over the past two years. Qonto will further accelerate its strong momentum across Europe by investing over €100 million in each market (Germany, Italy and Spain) over the next two years. Qonto also plans to reinforce its European leadership by launching in new markets by 2023. In 2025, it is expected that 75% of new clients will come from outside France.
Recruit new talent and quadruple its team to more than 2,000 by 2025, 50% of new hires to be based outside of France. In part, this will be achieved thanks to the creation of a new Customer Support Operations Hub, to be based in Barcelona and designed to maintain its outstanding customer support while further scaling. To reinforce its international recruitment strategy and meet the expectations of an increasingly agile and mobile talent pool, the company will also launch a European “Qonto Campus” program to enable international mobility between the local offices.
Alexandre Prot, co-founder and CEO of Qonto: “Since our launch in 2017, we’ve constantly strived to create the finance solution that energizes SMEs and freelancers, empowering them to achieve more. This new Series D funding round is an amazing opportunity for us to accelerate our hyper-growth trajectory by investing in our product, our customer service and our power to attract new talents. This funding round reveals the incredible dynamism of the French and European Tech ecosystem. We count on policymakers
to continue their efforts to ensure entrepreneurship can succeed, leading to European and global champions that deliver innovation. This is only the beginning of our journey to best serve SMEs and freelancers and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds for us and our ambitions. The Qonto team is honored to welcome the most prestigious international investors to support our mission to become the leading business finance solution.”
John Curtius, Partner at Tiger Global: “Qonto has revolutionized business finance for SMEs and freelancers by marrying simplicity with a unique all-in-one service. The company has seen a significant increase in clients across its European markets during the coronavirus pandemic. This also shows that customers’ needs are evolving during these unprecedented times. We have tracked Qonto’s incredible growth for some time and are delighted to partner with the entire Qonto team and support their mission to serve a rapidly growing European market.”
“We at TCV love to back visionary founders and could not be more excited to partner with Alexander, Steve and the rest of the Qonto team, said John Doran, General Partner at TCV. “We look forward to supporting them as they continue to bring best-in-class banking and finance solutions to millions of SMEs and freelancers across Europe.”
